Could DRUGS Be Causing Your Arthritis?! (Shocking)

Your mainstream doctor will blame just about everything but the kitchen sink for your arthritis pain

First, he’ll say it’s your age… or your genetics… or “normal” wear-and-tear.

But you know what he won’t say?

That there are mainstream drugs that could be causing your arthritis.

And today, I’m going to break that silence by telling you EXACTLY what to look for.

I’m talking about proton pump inhibitors and thiazide diuretics

Proton pump inhibitors are prescription and non-prescription drugs people take for heartburn. Some common names include (omeprazole) Prilosec, (esomeprazole) Nexium, and (lansoprazole) Prevacid

Thiazide diuretics are drugs people take to increase urine flow – many people call these their “water pill.” Some examples are chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Hygroton), and hydrochlorothiazide (Microzide).

These are very different drugs, so how can they BOTH cause arthritis?

It’s all thanks to decreasing levels of magnesium.

You see, both thiazide diuretics and PPIs leach magnesium from your body – but they do it differently.

Proton pump inhibitors make it hard for you to absorb the nutrients your body needs, including magnesium. Thiazide diuretics push magnesium out of your body every time you urinate.

Robbing your body of magnesium is a good enough reason to stay away from these drugs, but what is the connection to arthritis?

A new study, published in the journal ACR Open Rheumatology found that taking either of those drugs doubled your risk of chondrocalcinosis – a type of arthritis that used to be known as pseudogout.

The researchers found that when people don’t have enough magnesium, it increases the likelihood that a chemical called pyrophosphate is released from cells. Pyrophosphate then links up with calcium to create crystal deposits in the joints. Your body doesn’t like those crystals, and it unleashes a ton of inflammation – which can cause joint damage.

So what can you do if you’re on either (or both) of these medications?

The first thing to do is to work with your doctor to get off those drugs. You should not stop taking diuretics or PPIs without talking to your doctor first.

There are great natural ways to keep your blood pressure within a normal healthy limit and to avoid heartburn.

If you need to stay on those drugs, however, then I’d suggest supplementing with magnesium. I prefer magnesium bound to a protein (such as magnesium malate), but magnesium citrate is also a good choice.
