"Doomed to Diabetes?" Not with THIS $3 Supplement Solution
You’ve probably heard the warning from your doctor: “Once insulin resistance sets in, there’s no turning back.”
They make it sound like catching a whiff of a donut dooms you to Diabetes Town—with no exits.
But what if I told you this oft-repeated “fact” is about as reliable as diet advice from the vice president of Twinkies?
A groundbreaking study found that something gathering dust in the supplement aisle might help tame inflammation—and keep blood sugar in check.
Here’s how it works…
Researchers say fish oil may reduce insulin resistance and improve glucose tolerance by targeting your body’s inflammatory response.
The animal study, published in the journal Nutrients, found that fish oil supplements modify the profile of defense cells. The cells were shifted from a pro-inflammatory to an anti-inflammatory state, effectively reversing a condition resembling type 2 diabetes.
Researchers gave lab rats hefty doses of fish oil—equivalent to two grams per kilogram of body weight— three times a week for eight weeks. The result? Their insulin resistance plummeted.
With 38 percent of Americans walking around with prediabetes—most completely unaware—this finding could be a game-changer.
That doesn’t mean it’s time to run out and start guzzling fish oil by the gallon, of course. More research is needed before these results can be directly translated into human use.
Still, while conventional medicine pushes pricey meds with disturbing side effects, tackling the inflammation that may drive insulin resistance is worthwhile—and could slash your risk of developing type-2 diabetes.
- Start by eating more wild-caught, cold-water, fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines.
- Consider taking a high-quality fish oil supplement to make sure you’re getting a consistent amount of omega-3s.
- Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and maintain a healthy weight.
As always, talk to your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen—especially if you intend to take higher than the typically recommended dose.
So, the next time someone tells you that insulin resistance is a one-way street to diabetes, you’ll know the science suggests otherwise.
While more research is needed, this promising discovery shows that nature holds some powerful tools for protecting our health—in this case tools that have been swimming in our oceans all along.
