The Gut-Wrecking DANGER Hiding in Heartburn Drugs

Dear Reader,

Acid blocking drugs. They are on my list of drugs to never take – and for good reason.

On the surface, blocking acid from your stomach seems like a good idea. Especially when you’re having heartburn, but it actually isn’t

Stopping stomach acid means you stop food digestion which in turns slams the brakes on vital nutrient and vitamin absorption.

But that is just the tip of the iceberg. A new study shows acid-blockers are also brewing something in your gut that you definitely don’t want.

*****

You’ve probably heard about antibiotic-resistant bacteria. If you haven’t, they are, to put it simply, the bacteria that can’t be fought off by any antibiotic we have.

Imagine getting a small infection that eventually takes your life because it’s resistant to our antibiotics. This is the world (according to leading scientists) we are headed towards.

We have known for a long time that overuse of antibiotics (by doctors and farmers) has led to strains of bacteria immune to our drugs.

But a new study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Internal Medicine, reviewed twelve studies (of a total 22,300 people) and discovered common heartburn medications increase the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the gut.

Overall, people on acid blockers were 74% MORE likely to harbor bacteria that were resistant to multiple antibiotics.

That’s a frighteningly high statistic.

Now, there are two types of acid-blocking drugs: Proton pump inhibitors (PPI’s) such as omeprazole, lansoprazole and esomeprazole.

And there are H2 blockers, which include medications like cimetidine, famotidine and ranitidine.

For reasons not yet clear, PPIs seems to cause antibiotic resistance more than the H2 blockers.

The worst cases were people in hospitals who were taking acid blockers – because that’s where antibiotic-resistant bacteria thrive.

But don’t think H2 blockers are any better. We have found both of these drugs to increase heart disease, kidney disease, stomach cancer, as well as cause deficiencies in calcium, magnesium, vitamin B12, and other nutrients.

If you have heartburn, you need to look at your diet and gut health INSTEAD of shutting off the production of stomach acid in your body.
