Is COVID Creeping into Your Bedroom?!

The medical community is scrambling to figure out all the ways COVID-19 can spread from one person to another.

This is important because part of makes COVID-19 so horrible is the ease at which it is passed from one person to another.

For example, the 2003 SARS virus was, in comparison, not as difficult to contain because it didn’t spread as easily as COVID-19.

Right now, we know the virus can spread from being near another person, but what all does this entail? Just hand holding, or hugging? What about more intimate moments?

Some questioned whether or not the virus could be spread through intercourse. But don’t shut the door on your spouse just yet.

Because here’s the good news: COVID-19 is unlikely to spread through sexual contact according to research released by The University of Utah Health, published in the journal Fertility and Sterility.

The researchers found virtually no evidence that coronavirus invades semen or testes of infected men.

The team performed a genetic analysis of 6,5000 testicular cells looking for Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (or ACE2) receptors.

The COVID-19 virus uses the ACE2 receptor, and another called transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2), to enter a cell and take it over.

They found no receptors – which means that the virus is unlikely to be able to invade testicular cells where sperm is produced.

This is important because studies showed the infection called EBOLA was transferred months after by infected men were cured. And COVID-19 usually infects people long before they have any symptoms.

All this information is a relief but IS NOT the last word – it will take some time to make sure these findings are true.

So be sure to stay tuned…
