NEVER Eat This Type of Fiber! (Gross)

These days, it seems like you can’t leave your doctor’s office without hearing you need to eat more fiber.

You’ll hear the same thing from the government… and any other mainstream health organization.

And when you eat the right type of fiber, it IS good for you.

Unfortunately, many foods contain a type of fiber that causes gas, bloating, and the need to rush to the bathroom.

Here’s how to avoid it.

I’m talking about inulin.

You may not have heard of this type of fiber, but you’ve almost certainly eaten it.

Natural sources of inulin – like bananas, garlic, onions, asparagus, and Jerusalem artichokes –  are actually good for you.

But leave it to Big Food to turn it into something bad.

Food manufacturers use inulin in dairy products, ice cream, baked goods, meal replacement bars, salad dressing, cereals, chocolate, and many other processed foods. It’s in almost every processed food you eat.

Mad food scientists add inulin to make food more palatable and enjoyable (it improves so-called “mouth feel).

The problem with inulin is it passes through your stomach undigested. That undigested fiber then is fermented by bacteria in your gut.

This produces gas and other byproducts that can irritate the lining of your digestive tract, causing diarrhea and other stomach issues.

Inulin is considered a “prebiotic” because it helps increase the growth of gut bacteria – which is normally a good thing but only in certain amounts.

That’s why you should only get it from natural sources… and do your best to avoid it in processed foods.

And you can always boost your fiber intake by eating more green leafy vegetables, avocados, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, and nuts.
