The “Juicy Way” to Put an END to Your Cough

Dear Reader,

Coughs can be downright annoying…

A cough can start for any number of reasons: sometimes it’s an allergic reaction, sometimes it’s an infection (like a cold, flu, or even pneumonia or bronchitis) and sometimes it could be a reaction to drug.

The cough itself really doesn’t do much harm, although it can sometimes cause your chest and ribs to hurt.

But when it comes to getting rid of a cough, opting for an over-the-counter (OTC) cough medicine is certainly not your best bet. Not only because they don’t work that well, but because they are loaded with nasty side effects.

The good news? I have a better way to stop coughs in their tracks.

I know when you’re hit with an annoying, painful cough you’re tempted to do just about anything to get rid of it.

But the thing is, when you reach for those OTC cough suppressants, you’re grabbing something that A. doesn’t work well and B. will land you with more health problems like constipation, dry mouth, and drowsiness.

And if we’re being honest, many studies on cough syrups showed that they didn’t perform any better than the placebo.

However, a newer study, published in the Journal Der Pharma Chemica, discovered that a combination of pineapple juice, honey, and cayenne pepper helped dissolve mucus in the lungs of patients who had a chronic cough because of tuberculosis.

A follow-up study found that pineapple juice extracts could decrease the amount of mucus five times faster than cough syrups! Even better? Patients recovered from coughing 4.8 timesquicker when they consumed the pineapple cocktail.

A well-known enzyme found in pineapple (called bromelain) has strong anti-inflammatory properties – which is one main reason scientists believe it works so well. Bromelain alsocontains mucolytic properties that help breakdown mucus and expel it from the lungs.

This enzyme has a long history of being used for inflammation reduction and to even aid against cancer.

Pineapple is also rich in nutrients such as manganese, beta carotene, copper, zinc, folate, and others.

The takeaway? Rather than reach for a chemical cough suppressant, consider giving pineapple juice a shot.

Here is the recipe:

  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 3 inches of ginger root
  • 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of organic, raw honey
  • 1/4 cup of lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • Pinch of salt
