“Umbrella Method” CRUSHES Depression
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Getting to the bottom of depression can be a frustrating process… especially if you’re going the mainstream route.
It’s hard enough telling your doc that you’re having trouble finding happiness. And facing an endless parade of antidepressants and their countless side effects doesn’t make your life any easier.
But now, there’s a simpler way to CRUSH your depression, thanks to this “umbrella method.”
The best part? It costs next to nothing… and there’s not a single side effect to speak of!
Long time readers will know I’m a big fan of mushrooms.
These strange, umbrella-shaped forms are fungi that live lives surprisingly like ours. There are cancers, bacteria, and viruses that attack mushrooms just like they attack us.
But mushrooms have TONS of natural defense chemicals that protect them. So when we eat those mushrooms, we also get the protection against viruses, bacteria, and cancers.
In fact, there are well over 500 clinical research studies using medical mushrooms to treat cancers.
But there’s something I’d never thought I’d hear about mushrooms.
A recent study in the Journal of Affective Disorders found that mushrooms may be just the superfood to banish the blues.
The new study collected mental health and diet data from over 24,000 U.S. adults between 2005 and 2016. And it points to something surprising…
They found that the MORE mushrooms people consumed, the less likely they were to have depression.
The research team hypothesized it was the mushroom’s ability to lower inflammation that made the difference.
You see, certain mushrooms contain a molecule called ergothioneine, which is an antioxidant that’s known for its ability to lower inflammation. And inflammation is thought to be one of the root causes of depression.
So, which mushrooms are we talking about?
It used to be thought that only certain mushrooms contained enough active ingredients to be helpful in treating diseases. We now know that even the “medium” mushrooms contain at least some powerful molecules that are health-promoting.
But Hericium erinaceus in particular, more commonly known as lion’s mane, has the ability to stimulate brain cell growth.
Add as many mushrooms to your diet as you can. If you don’t like the taste or texture of mushrooms, try chopping them finely and putting them in other dishes. You’ll be surprised by how well they disappear… or even make food taste better!
