Bleeding Gums: A WARNING Sign for This Condition?

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Do you know the best way to find out if you have a gum problem?

The answer is easy: floss. If you floss and you spit out blood, you could be on the road to gingivitis or a gum infection.

And if you notice blood when you simply brush your teeth, you could have an even MORE serious problem.

Because bleeding gums aren’t just a sign of subpar oral health… they could be signaling something MUCH worse.

Researchers have recently discovered that bleeding gums could be a warning sign for this dangerous condition.

Almost any mainstream dentist will tell you to floss more if you have gum bleeding. And while flossing is good advice, it’s missing something bigger.

Because the health of your gums is far more important than most people realize.

A new study has found that bleeding gums could be a sign of a vitamin C deficiency.

You see, having an infection in your gums is linked to all sorts of health issues, including diabetes, heart disease, and even Alzheimer’s disease.

But the infection itself is just PART of the story.

A new study from the journal Nutrition Reviews combined research from 15 clinical trials and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention’s Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. And after reviewing the data for almost 10,000 patients, they discovered that folks with the most sensitive gums also happened to have the lowest vitamin C levels.

Most people don’t realize that vitamin C is essential for the healthy, functioning blood vessels. When you don’t have enough vitamin C, blood can leak through the weak blood vessels.

The good news is, when the study participants with low vitamin C increased their intake, their gums bled less.

Long story short – look after the health of your gums by making sure you are getting enough vitamin C.

This doesn’t have to mean loading up on citrus fruit either. You can also get vitamin C from kale, peppers, guava, and even herbs like thyme and parsley.

If you prefer to supplement instead, look for a brand that has at least 75 to 95mg of vitamin C daily, though some folks take up to 2,000mg a day. Talk with your doctor to determine what amount is right for you.

P.S. Just like too little of a vitamin can be dangerous, too MUCH can be as well. Find out what maxing out on vitamin A can do to your health right here.
