Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

You’ve got questions…

We’ve got answers!

Today, we’ve got a very important question about combating acne and using hydrogen water to mix baby formula.

Let’s dive in…

--Natural Acne Solutions

Hi Natalie,

I’m 60-plus and still suffer from acne on my face. I’m not quite sure how to get rid of it for good. I have suffered from acne since I was a teenager, and it’s never cleared up. I’ve tried everything — washing, scrubbing, dermatologist, eat cheese, don’t eat cheese, etc…. In my line of work, sometimes it hinders me from being all I can be.

Do you have any suggested remedies for this? Anything you know that works?

Thanks,

Netty

Great question. Thanks for asking, Netty.

I too have suffered from acne since I was a teenager. I tried everything from expensive cleansers to birth control pills and other prescription drugs. In fact, it was so severe I was put on the dangerous drug Accutane when I was 19 and my acne still didn’t go away. (Thanks, Big Pharma.)

Thankfully, after quitting harsh prescriptions and throwing out thousands of dollars in useless cleansers and topicals, I found a natural solution that’s kept my skin looking good — bentonite clay.

Bentonite clay is highly absorbent, and when combined with liquid, it has a mild electrical charge. These two properties make bentonite clay the perfect acne buster because it attracts and removes toxins, impurities and heavy metals. Due to its electrical charge, these pimple producers cannot be reabsorbed back into the skin.

I use bentonite clay as a mask by combining equal parts clay and apple cider vinegar (water will work just fine too). I then use a paintbrush to apply the mask evenly over my face and let it dry completely. This clay is so powerful you can actually feel your skin pulsate and tighten dramatically. In fact, a few times, it pulled so tight I could barely get my mouth open enough to talk.

Once washed off, my skin is taut and oil-free and my pores are visibly smaller than before using the mask.

I use this mask every other week, and it’s been the only thing that keeps my skin clear with the exception of the occasional stress- or hormone-induced breakout.

I like the Aztec Secret brand because it’s affordable and effective. Click here to check it out.

Be warned, though, this mask is powerful and should not be used by folks who have dry skin.

If you have an acne solution you would like to share, please do! nmoore@lfb.org.

--Hydrogen Water and Baby Formula

We get a lot of questions about hydrogen water in the Living Well Daily mailbag. We reached out to the folks at H2 Healthy Living (www.H2healthyliving.com) to answer a very important question about the safety of mixing infant formula with hydrogen water. The H2 Healthy Living website is operated by a group of well-informed hydrogen water experts who created the site for educational purposes and to provide industry updates.

Let’s see what our reader, Lucy, had to say:

Hi Natalie,

I’ve read a lot about how hydrogen water is great for adults since it’s loaded with a powerful antioxidant. It made me curious. Would hydrogen water be safe to mix with my 6-month-old son’s infant formula?

Thank you,

Lucy

Thanks for the great question, Lucy. We’ve gotten several reader questions about this. Here’s H2HL’s response:

The water from the pitcher will likely be very alkaline (probably 9.5).

Many folks recommend that babies don’t drink alkaline water, but we’ve never seen a reasonable scientific explanation why that recommendation is made.  So many alkaline myths exist that it is hard to know what to believe.

However, given that there is no research done specifically on the effects of hydrogen water on children, we strongly recommend checking with your child’s pediatrician before using hydrogen water to mix with baby formula.

Big thanks to the team over at H2 Healthy Living for clearing that up for us.

If you would like to reap all of the amazing health benefits of hydrogen water for yourself, you can do so with the Turapür countertop system. The filter can be easily installed directly to your kitchen sink and provides two stages of filtration. The first stage reduces bad tastes and odors. The second stage passes the water through special minerals that generate free hydrogen in the water — making it a powerful antioxidant. Research suggests antioxidants can help give you energy, generate radiant skin and even help keep your joints healthy. Click here to learn more about Turapür.

Thanks for your questions! Keep them coming! Send all questions to nmoore@lfb.org.

Live well,
