[Warning] Deadly New Risk for Heartburn Drugs
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Heartburn is one of the most miserable conditions you can be faced with.
The constant burning, nausea and pain is agonizing.
What’s worse, top heartburn meds have been linked to everything from stroke to kidney disease.
And according to brand-new research from the Mayo Clinic, these dangerous drugs can up your chances of getting a nasty and often deadly infection.
This new study focused on the link between proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), like Prilosec, Prevacid and Nexium as well as H2 blockers like Zantac, Pepcid and Tagamet, and C. difficile infections.
C. difficile is a “superbug” bacteria that can cause serious inflammation of the colon, diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain and even death.
Even worse, C. difficile infections are incredibly difficult to treat because they don’t respond to most antibiotics. This can lead to recurrent and stubborn infections, which often require hospitalization and can threaten your life.
After analyzing 16 different studies that included medical data on over 7,700 participants with C. difficile, the researchers’ worst fears were confirmed…
Folks taking PPIs and H2 blockers are at a 50 percent risk of developing C. difficile infections.
Even worse, they were 22 percent more likely to experience recurrent C. difficile infections.
This means your heartburn medications could land you in the hospital several times!
Experts believe heartburn meds up your chances of bacterial stomach infections like C. difficile because they suppress the natural acids in your stomach, allowing the bacteria to multiply rapidly.
Since the bad news about heartburn meds keeps coming, experts question why doctors and pharmacists recommend these dangerous drugs.
And when you consider that making just a few lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, eating less, losing weight and watching your diet can help sooth your heartburn.
Another easy way stop heartburn is with aloe vera juice.
Aloe juice has been touted for its anti-inflammatory properties for decades. More recently, a study shows that aloe juice can fight heartburn as effectively as commercial antacids.
You can get aloe juice at natural food stores and through online retailers like vitacost.com.
