Nutty Trick Drops Heart Risk 32%
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Strokes and heart attacks can happen in just the blink of an eye.
But the plaques that causes them can take years to build in your arteries.
Eventually, these plaques can harden and stiffen your arteries, turning your heart into a literal ticking time bomb.
Fortunately, researchers from Pennsylvania State University have found that adding a popular snack to meals can help keep your arteries soft and supple well into your golden years.
Even better, this treat is cheap and available EVERYWHERE!
I’m talking about peanuts!
That’s right, the little legumes you’ve been snacking on for years also help lower your chances of suffering from a stroke or heart attack.
Peanuts are so effective at this because they can lower certain fats called triglycerides in our bloodstream, even after eating a meal, when they typically spike.
Lowering triglyceride levels helps your arteries stay soft and elastic, which keeps your heart in tiptop shape.
To prove the power of peanuts, Penn State researchers divided a group of overweight and obese men. Half got a meal that included three ounces of peanuts, and half got a meal without peanuts.
After meals, the researchers checked the participants’ blood cholesterol levels.
The peanut eaters saw a whopping 32 percent drop in triglyceride levels!
This means by simply adding three little ounces of peanuts to your meal, you can decrease your chances of having stiff, heart attack-causing arteries by nearly a third!
Even better, peanut consumption has been shown to fight heart disease, diabetes and even cancer in previous research.
Though it should be noted that none of these health benefits applies to peanut butter. So be sure to enjoy whole peanuts if you want to slash your risk of these deadly diseases.
You can get peanuts at just about any grocery store. If you’re going for organic, check out the selections at organicmountainfarms.com.
