WARNING: Prostate Drug Causing Diabetes?
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
If you have an enlarged prostate, you’ve probably tried just about everything to get relief.
And who could blame you? The constant urge to go and countless trips to the toilet are enough to drive any man crazy.
But if taking you’re a certain drug, your prostate could be the least of your health worries.
Because Boston University researchers have just found that a popular prostate med can put you on the fast track to deadly blood sugar issues and major problems in the bedroom.
I’m talking about dutasteride (Avodart).
And it’s been linked to painful and embarrassing side effects like impotence and swollen breasts in the past.
But these latest findings are truly life-threatening.
In a recent study, researchers monitored men taking dutasteride for changes in blood sugar, cholesterol levels and liver functions. Additionally, the participants answered surveys to determine their quality of life and sexual activity.
And at the end of the 42-month trial, the researchers only had bad news…
Dutasteride ups blood sugar, A1C and cholesterol levels — three of the key drivers behind deadly illnesses like diabetes and fatty liver disease.
Even worse, dutasteride reduces quality of life and further worsens sexual function.
Risk of diabetes, liver problems and even more trouble in the bedroom? No thanks.
If you’re taking dutasteride, it’s time to talk to your doctor about getting off of it and trying something natural.
One supplement known to help settle prostate problems is pygeum. Dozens of studies have shown it can drastically reduce prostate symptoms by reducing inflammation.
You can pick up pygeum easily as a stand-alone supplement. But you’ll also see it included in supplement formulations with other prostate-friendly ingredients like lycopene and beta-sitosterol.
Just make sure you’re getting enough. Much of the research on pygeum has focused on doses from 50–100 mg.
Live well,
