Popular Stomach Meds KILLING Americans

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

For years, Big Pharma has been making a fortune off of risky heartburn meds.

Especially those proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Nexium, Prevacid and Prilosec.

PPIs keep selling like crazy, even though they’ve been linked to everything from kidney disease to dementia.

But now, a Midwestern research team is sounding the most frightening warning on PPIs yet.

Turns out that these billion-dollar meds could send you to an early grave… and much faster than you’d think.

Each year, we see more and more science on the health risks of PPIs.

So researchers from Washington University in Missouri and experts from Veterans Affairs were curious to see if folks taking PPIs were at a higher risk of dying.

For the study, the scientists analyzed the health data of about 276,000 people who were taking PPIs and about 73,000 folks who were taking H2 blockers, a different type of heartburn drug.

Overall, researchers found that folks taking PPIs had a whopping 25 percent greater risk of dying.

Even worse, the risk steadily increases with longer use. Folks who were taking PPIs for one to two years saw an outrageous 50 percent bump in death risk.

The PPI group had higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease, which all contribute to death risk.

And while H2 blockers may appear to be a safer choice, they still come with their fair share of risks, too.

But who needs these drugs anyway?

Making just a few lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, eating less, losing weight and cutting down on spicy foods could relieve heartburn.

Chewing gum is also a great way to take some of the sting out of heartburn.

So, if you’re taking a PPI or any other type of heartburn drug, now is a good time to talk to your doctor about getting off of it and start making some changes.

But never quit a PPI cold turkey, as that can make a stomach acid problem worse. You’ll need to wean yourself off the drug.

Live well,
