How to Turn Off Your “Fat Switch”… Forever

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

You can’t turn on the TV these days without seeing some story about a new “secret” for losing weight.

But here’s the secret that almost nobody knows… there is NO SECRET.

The fact is, we’ve known for a long time what causes you to gain and lose weight… and it’s really not that complicated.

Your body actually has a “fat switch” that determines whether you’re fit and trim… or whether you’ll have love handles drooping over your jeans.

But here’s the good news. I’m going to show you how to flip that fat switch into the “off” position – and keep it there.

If you want to learn how to gain or lose weight, ask a farmer.

Scientists who study animals for agriculture know exactly what to feed them to make them lean or fat.

And, yes, there is a fat switch.

Cows are often raised on grass and then are sent to a feedlot to fatten them up. The feedlot knows how to flip the fat switch and pile on the pounds.

Bears use the exact same switch to put on weight before hibernation.

Your body has a fat switch, too.

If you want real, permanent, sustainable weight loss you need to fix the issues preventing your body from burning fat and turn off that switch.

So, how do we do that?

Dr. Scott’s Plan for Burning Fat:

  • Protein: You need to eat protein to feel full, have less appetite, and lower your cravings. Protein easily fills you up and takes more energy to digest than any other types of food. Protein also helps build muscle mass – which pushes your metabolism into overdrive.
  • Be an Amish Farmer: No, not literally… But University of Maryland researchers concluded that a lifestyle with abundant physical work (like the Amish) is the best for weight loss and maintenance. How do you make this work if you are not a farmer? Find an exercise you actually like doing and do that a lot. Your exercise can be walking, golfing, swimming, biking… anything you enjoy.
  • Pretend You Are Italian: The best diet on the planet is called the Mediterranean Diet – which includes fish, poultry, vegetables, nuts, and olive oil. You can make this work for you by including a veggie with every meal and make olive oil your standard oil.
  • Drink Only Water: This is the hardest step for most people, but the calories that come from drinking anything but water are calories you don’t need. If you want to drink something else, try green tea or coffee – these actually kick your metabolism into high gear and help your weight loss.

My best advice? Try berberine: this plant extract helps to reduce inflammation and gives that fat switch a good kick in the backend. The studies supporting use of berberine are strong.

Remember to make one small change at a time — eventually they will throw that fat switch in reverse and give you the body you want.

Health and Happiness,

Scott Olson
