This “Fat Advice” Can Kill You!

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

It’s sham advice that ended up killing countless people… maybe even someone you love.

For years, the American Heart Association, the National Education Cholesterol Program, and the National Institutes of Health all told us to eat vegetable oils.

You know, those clear plastic containers of yellow oils… the oils we were told were great for our health.

Those oils are not only incredibly unhealthy, but are harming you in ways that can cost you years of your life.

Vegetable oils (like soybean, corn, safflower, canola) are like throwing gas on a fire for many diseases.

All hope is not lost, though, because there are fats that can help slow aging and even stop lots of modern illnesses in their tracks.

You just need to make sure you’re getting the right kind.

Remember the advice to stay away from saturated fats (and fats in general)?

Since that advice was first given in the 1940s, millions of people have followed it (and millions of people have suffered because of it).

The proof of that suffering comes in the form of a recent study called a meta-analysis – this type of study combines the evidence from many other studies (forming a large study).

This new meta-analysis combined information from 72 clinical studies and found no benefit to reducing saturated fats (butter, coconut oil) or increasing unsaturated fats (soybean, corn, safflower, canola).

That is right: your health does not depend on avoiding butter.

I’ve long suggested people stay away from vegetable oils.

Want to know how bad these oils are for you? Studies show that unsaturated fats (soybean, corn, safflower, canola) can increase:

  • Asthma
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Macular degeneration
  • Obesity
  • Psychiatric disorders
  • Rheumatoid arthritis

Why are these oils harmful?

In order to produce these oils, they are usually pressed, heated, and chemically extracted – all of which increase the harm these oils do. These processes make the oils into harmful chemicals that shouldn’t be considered foods.

But the biggest problem with these concentrated vegetable oils is that they all increase inflammation.

At the turn of the 20th century, the amount of vegetable oils consumed was nearly zero. Today the average consumption is 70 pounds a year. Per person. That is 70 pounds of poison into your body every year.

So, which oils can you use? I like:

  • Olive oil and avocado oil
  • Butter
  • Lard/Tallow
  • Coconut oil

We all need to move away from these inflammatory vegetable fats and the best way to do that is to stop eating processed foods (fast-food and frozen foods) and only buy the oils on my list above.

The good news (from the meta-analysis) was that omega 3 fats (fish oil) help reduce disease. And you know I’m a strong believer in supplementing fish oil – because most of us don’t eat enough fish to fulfill our needs.

Make sure you add fish oil to your diet, starting today.

Health and Happiness,
