Should You Stop Taking Prescription Drugs? (My Answer Will Surprise You)

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

You know that I’m a big fan of finding health through nature – and I’m not a fan of prescription drugs.

These meds are band-aids that attempt to fix a health problem by hiding the symptoms.

I’d rather get to the root of what’s making you sick.

Recently, though, I ran across a study that said 30 to 40 percent of people stop taking drugs without talking to their doctor.

Let me give you some advice on stopping drugs: Don’t do it.

Let me tell you why.

I know this sounds strange coming from me, but you should never stop taking drugs you are prescribed (not without some help).

In the new study, when people were asked why they stopped taking drugs:

  • 30 percent said it was the side effects.
  • 30 percent didn’t think the drug was working, or they didn’t need it.
  • 16 percent said they were feeling better and didn’t need the drug anymore.

Yes. Drugs come with horrible side effects that harm people.

And, yes, drugs are over-prescribed for conditions that are better suited to natural medicine.

And, yes, drug company make tons of money and they use that money to put undue influence on everyone from the scientists doing research, to politicians, to the FDA.

Drugs are bad news.

But, here is the thing: once you start taking a drug, it may not be so easy (or a good idea) to stop.

Many people don’t understand that by starting a drug, they are often becoming married to that drug for life.

This is because drugs take over (or take the place of) your body’s own regulatory mechanisms.

When you suddenly stop these drugs, you often get a bounce-back effect that can be very harmful (and sometimes deadly).

Heart medications are especially dangerous to stop as you can get massive spikes in blood pressure. Blood sugar medications are the same.

You don’t want to hurt yourself by stopping a drug.

Let me show you how it can be done the RIGHT way.

Dr. Scott’s Plan for getting off medications:

  • Never start. Always investigate natural ways to help your condition as your first step.
  • Never stop without some help. If money is the issue, go to your doctor and ask him the best way to get off the drug (don’t do it alone).
  • Work with your doctor and tell him you want to get off the drug. If your doctor is not open to you trying something natural and checking back in, then find another doctor.
  • Have a plan for how you are going to replace the drug – there are many natural solutions that work well.

Prescription medications are not my favorite thing in the world, but they do need to be treated with respect once you start taking them.

Health and Happiness,

Scott Olson
