The REAL Reason You Can’t Sleep

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

One night not too long ago, I was lying awake, staring at the ceiling.

I had a family issue weighing heavily on my mind, but it got me to thinking.

There were millions of other people at that very moment, having the same problem as me.

They couldn’t sleep.

Forty percent of folks regularly have trouble sleeping… and maybe you’re one of them.

But it’s time we fixed that problem once and for all.

Because I’m going to show you how a simple deficiency is causing your sleep problems… and how fixing it can help deliver the best sleep of your life.

Not sleeping well is no joke.

Without consistent good sleep, you put your body at risk for many chronic diseases.

Bad sleep is tied to increased inflammation, weight gain, poor brain function, mood disorders and many other conditions. And a new study has shown that bad sleep can even make your marriage worse.

So, what can help?

The most likely cause of bad sleep is the hormone called melatonin.

Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland in our brains, and it helps our bodies to know that it is time to go to sleep.

When we measure melatonin in the body, we find that it is low during the morning and starts to rise during the day.

Melatonin is highest in the evening. It helps you to feel tired (telling you to go to sleep) and it also helps to keep you asleep all night.

No one is quite sure why, but we lose our ability to produce melatonin as we age.

And, when we don’t sleep well, our melatonin production plummets. It’s a vicious cycle, and is one of the reasons why bad sleep only makes for more bad sleep.

You need more melatonin if you want to sleep well.

Here are the best ways to get more:

  • Some foods contain melatonin (tomatoes, olives, cherries). You can try eating these at night, but you usually won’t get enough to make a difference.
  • Get out in the sun: Melatonin is produced when light hits our eyes, so the more sunshine you are exposed to during the day, the more melatonin you produce.
  • Supplement: I personally think that supplementing with melatonin is the best way to get what you are missing. You can find melatonin supplements at just about any vitamin or supplement shop.

Along with melatonin, you can always try calming herbs (chamomile, hops, passionflower, valerian) to help you sleep.

Health and Happiness,
