Your Brain is SCREAMING for This One Supplement

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Let’s face it – none of us want to lose any brainpower as we get older.

And we’ve all heard plenty about supplements like DHA and ginkgo biloba that are supposed to keep our minds in tip-top shape.

But a group of neuroscientists recently announced what they thought is the most important nutrient for good brain health.

What they said surprised me.

Maybe it will surprise you, too.

Of all the nutrients they had to choose from, these neuroscientists thought that magnesium was the mineral our brains needed the most.

Let’s see why.

Studies show only about 25 percent of us are getting the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for magnesium.

And the RDA for magnesium is incredibly low to begin with.

Magnesium is important to your body and is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions.

What happens when you don’t get enough magnesium? Your heart beats irregularly, and you have muscle cramps, restless leg syndrome, fatigue, and even migraines.

But why do neurologists think magnesium is so important for your brain?

Magnesium helps with so-called “executive functions.” These are functions that help us to think more creatively and effectively. They also help us to regulate our emotions and make good decisions.

One of the big problems is that magnesium is burned up when you are stressed (and who isn’t stressed?).

Here is the good news: boosting magnesium will help your brain function better, as well as your heart and muscles. Getting enough magnesium also reduces cortisol levels (which reduces stress).

You can make sure you are getting enough magnesium by eating enough leafy greens, nuts, and avocados. But I think magnesium is so important (and so lacking in our diets) that it is one of the nutrients you should supplement.

But let’s not stop there — you can super-charge your brain by going a few steps beyond supplementing with magnesium.

Dr. Scott’s Brain-Boosting Program:

  • Increase protein: Protein is your friend for a healthy brain. It helps to create all the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that are needed for good function.
  • Eat good fats: The human brain is nearly 60 percent fat. This should tell you how important fat is to the brain. Essential fatty acids (fish oil) are absolutely vital for brain function (and would win the “most needed nutrient for the brain” if I was voting).
  • B vitamins: Every function in your brain requires B vitamins. You probably want to supplement these vitamins, too.
  • Herbal support: I like curcumin and bacopa for good brain support.

Magnesium is incredibly important for healthy functioning of your brain. Make sure you get enough!

But take a few extra steps to have an extraordinary brain for now and for years to come.

Health and Happiness,

Scott Olson
