These “Fat-Free” Foods Are Making You Fat!

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

For years we’ve been told how horrible sugar is for us… starting when we were just kids.

First we’re told it will rot our teeth… and later on, we’re warned that it can cause weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, and even brain problems.

So it’s no wonder that food companies are making a FORTUNE selling us artificial sweeteners as a “safer” alternative.

We’re promised that foods with these chemical sweeteners are “sugar free” or “fat free.”

But health researchers recently set out to understand whether artificial sweeteners were really better for our waistlines or our health.

The answer? A resounding NO!

Early scientific studies showed people gained less weight when they used artificially sweetened beverages.

But that wasn’t true for long… if it was ever true at all.

Recently, large population studies have cast doubt on those early results.

These newer, bigger studies linked frequent consumption of artificial sugars to worse health – and showed that people who drank diet sodas actually gained weight.

Real sugar has long been linked to weight gain, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and stroke.

But here is the strange thing: so have artificial sweeteners.

Studies show that artificial sweeteners increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and stroke.

Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire!

Worse still, new studies prove that artificial sweeteners interfere with hormones, mess with our mental function, and even harm out gut bacteria – all bad news.

Sugar has its problems, but artificial sweeteners have the exact same problems.

So, back to our original question: which one is better?

To me, it is sort of like asking would you rather be shot or stabbed. Both are bad.

The take-home message: to start, find something else to drink than soda. There are plenty of good options from coffee, tea, or a refreshing glass of water.

Make the choice to stay away from both sugar and artificial sweeteners as much as you can.

Over time, your body will thank you for it.

Health and Happiness,
