Avoid These “Killer 4” Nutrient Deficiencies

There are few guarantees in life.

But here is something I can guarantee: Unless you supplement, you are deficient in at least one nutrient.

And these nutritional deficiencies can be a big deal.

Over time, they can undermine your health and even lead to serious (and deadly) disease.

Here are the “Killer 4” deficiencies you may be dealing with right now – and what to do about them.

#1 Vitamin D: Studies show that most people don’t get enough vitamin D, but the crazy thing is that they are using a measurement that is woefully low.

When you get a blood test, doctors seem to the think 20 ng/ml is the right level — some even suggest 30 ng/ml is what you should aim for. Many studies now show you need at least 50 ng/ml to drop inflammation and provide your body with what it needs.

The best way to get vitamin D is through fatty fish and direct sun exposure. I also suggest supplementing because most of us don’t get enough sun exposure (especially in winter).

#2 Magnesium: About 60% of us don’t get enough magnesium. Magnesium was originally known as the relaxation mineral because it helps with anxiety and sleep.

It also is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions including protein synthesis, blood pressure, blood sugar control, and muscle and nerve function. A great way to get this mineral is Epsom salt baths–because you can absorb it through your skin. Nuts, avocados, and meat are also good sources.

#3 Essential Fatty Acids: Essential fatty acids are one of the key missing nutrients in our diets (especially Omega-3). Unless you eat fish two to three times a week, you are not getting enough Omega-3 fatty acids.

Omega-3 fatty acids help to keep inflammation at bay and help our brains and heart. I suggest supplementing with one to three grams of fish oil every day.

#4 Vitamin K2: Vitamin K2 is one of the most underestimated powerhouse vitamins. Vitamin K2 is now known to activate over 17 proteins in our bodies, including those that help build bones, keep our arteries healthy, and help with blood clotting. Studies show it can help with brain function, diabetes, and heart disease. You can find vitamin K2 in leafy green vegetables (such as spinach), but this is another one you might choose to supplement.
