Never Mix These Two DEADLY Drugs
When I read the news, it broke my heart.
A man named Jon talked to his 24-year-old son, Bradley, shortly after midnight.
Bradley was having trouble sleeping… he just didn’t feel right.
When Jon checked on his son in the morning, Bradly was dead.
What killed Bradly was a deadly combo of drugs that NEVER should have been prescribed.
Drugs like these could be sitting in your medicine cabinet right now.
And it’s critical that you take a few simple steps right now to keep yourself safe.
Bradley had been taking an antipsychotic drug called Seroquel for sleep and anxiety. He also had recently been prescribed methadone for knee pain following a severe injury.
The combination can suppress your heart and respiratory functions, and was deadly.
But here is the thing: Bradley is not alone, and the problem is bigger than simply mixing two drugs. Bradley should not have been prescribed Seroquel.
Seroquel is a drug that was approved for some types of bipolar depression. But that is not why the drug was prescribed to Bradley: he was taking it for anxiety and to help him sleep.
His doctor prescribed Seroquel for anxiety and sleep as a so called “off-label” prescription (it was never approved for anxiety and sleep).
Guess where his doctor got the idea to prescribe this drug to him? Drug company reps.
Drug companies have representatives that visit doctors and strongly suggest off-label uses.
Why do they do this?
Because it increases sales. And it works for Seroquel (which accounts for 16% of drug manufacturer AstraZeneca’s revenue).
Drugs have many problems, but combining drugs is the biggest one. Studies estimate that up to 40% of people over the age of 65 are taking more than five medications.
Mixing drugs becomes a bigger problem as you age because your body has a harder time removing drugs from your body.
As with all drugs, I preach “buyer beware.”
Here is my plan for keeping medications to a minimum.
Dr. Scott’s Plan for having the fewest prescriptions:
- Never start. Always investigate natural ways to help your condition as your first step.
- Work with your doctor and tell them you want to get off a drug. If your doctor is not open to you trying something natural and checking back in, then find another doctor.
- Have a plan for how you will replace the drug, including weaning off the drug and starting a natural alternative.
As always: never stop a drug without some help. Many drugs can be more harmful when you stop taking them cold turkey than where you are on them.
