6 Habits That Are Aging You FAST

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

We all know someone I’d describe as a “super senior.”

I’m talking about that woman who’s 70 but looks 55.

Or that guy who’s running circles around people half his age on the golf course.

So how do you become one of these elite seniors?

The trick is avoiding bad habits.

Right now, there are six habits that could be making you age much faster than you’d like.

And avoiding them could be the secret to turning back time.

The choices you make every day make a big difference in how you age.

Here are the bad habits that make you age at warp speed:

Skipping Sunscreen: Women have an easier time using sunscreen than men. That is because many beauty products contain sunscreens. Men need to put sunscreen near their toothbrush and apply a little every day. This will prevent wrinkles. The sun is the biggest generator of skin damage.

Not sleeping well: There is almost nothing which will make you look older than not getting a good night’s sleep. Not only do you look bad, but lack of sleep stops the body’s repair mechanism (making you look even older) and messes with your brain (which makes you feel and appear older). Get a good night’s sleep. If you have problems sleeping, try a supplement that contains melatonin (the sleep hormone) and calming herbs (hops, passionflower, chamomile, and/or valerian).

Not eating enough vegetables: Estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest 80% of us don’t get the recommended servings of vegetables a day. These foods are full of antioxidants and vitamins that kill free radicals (which age you). See if you can add a vegetable to each meal. You can also use my method to cheat by taking a superfoods supplement which helps you get those servings in every day. I mix a scoop in a bit of water to make sure I’m covering all my bases.

Eating too much sugar: Scientists now think sugar does the same damage to your body as cigarettes. Sugar damages collagen, which causes skin to sag. Sugar also causes your energy to fade and your brain to check out. Sugar creates malformed proteins which wrinkle your skin, cloud your vision (cataracts), and destroy your blood vessels (heart disease). Do your best to stay away from sugar.

Drinking and smoking. I’m guessing I don’t need to tell you to stop smoking or drinking too much, but I had to add it to my list because those two things will age you faster than almost anything you do.

Avoiding Exercise: People who exercise are bringing healthy blood to all the tissues in their bodies–and it shows. You don’t have to be crazy with your exercise, even daily walking will help.

Health and Happiness,
