Dementia thoughts

Popular Meds Increase Dementia by 44%

Heartburn drugs have become a billion-dollar industry.

They’re getting their own aisle in the pharmacy… and you can’t turn on the TV these days without seeing an ad for a heartburn med.

But these drugs are WAY more dangerous than we’ve ever been told.

New research shows that a certain class of heartburn drugs is sending your dementia risk through the roof.

Let me show you how to steer clear of these poison pills… and control your heartburn naturally.

German researchers published a paper in JAMA Neurology, and found that older people (65 and older) who were taking proton pump inhibitors (like Prilosec, Nexium, or Prevacid) increased their risk of dementia.

How bad is the effect?

People who were elderly and who were taking those drugs had a 44% increased risk for dementia.

That is huge!

The next question you want to ask is why? At this point no one knows for sure.

One of the reasons may be the drop in vitamin B12 that comes with stopping acid production. Having enough stomach acid is vital to absorbing vitamin B12 from your digestive tract.

Vitamin B12 is essential for normal brain function and brain protection.

There are more than 15 million people using these heartburn drugs. If one of them is you, then stop.

These drugs, the study discovered, also increase kidney disease from anywhere between 20%-50%.

Now is a good time to stop heartburn drugs. But what do you do if you have heartburn?

Let me help you.

Dr. Scott’s Foolproof Plan to Avoid Heartburn:

  • Stay away from soda: Sugary drinks are famous for producing gas (at both ends). When gas moves up from your stomach, it often carries stomach acid which causes heart burn.
  • Do your best to avoid too much sugar: Foods that contain sugar can act exactly like soda and cause gas.
  • Take a probiotic: A healthy gut microbiome (gut bacteria) can help reduce heartburn.
  • Pass the salt – yes, the salt: I’ll talk more about the non-dangers of salt in later newsletters, but for now, know that it helps keep bad bacteria in check and produces strong stomach acid (which reduces heartburn).
