The #1 Predictor of a Long Life (Shocking)
If you want to reach your 90th or even 100th birthday, there’s plenty of advice on how to get there.
Some of it is even good.
You want to exercise regularly… eat well… and engage in activities to keep your brain sharp and engaged.
But there has been a quiet, little study going on for 80 years.
It just discovered the #1 predictor for living a long, healthy life.
And you’ll never believe what it is.
This landmark study started during the Great Depression (1938).
The first researchers chose 268 Harvard sophomores and asked them questions about their habits and lifestyle choices.
Then, they had an idea: follow up with these men every 10 years and see if the choices they made as younger men would leave clues to leading a healthy and happy life.
This study is now one of the longest studies in existence and has expanded to include the men’s offspring (there are now over 1,300 people in the study).
The results are astounding.
When asked, the lead researcher, Dr. Robert Waldinger, had this to say:
“The surprising finding of this study is that our relationships and how happy we are in our relationships has a powerful influence on our health.”
Dr. Waldinger suggests the quality of our relationships is every bit as important as our lifestyle choices (drinking, smoking, exercising, etc.) to our long-term health.
Even I didn’t expect what an impact our marriage, friends, and social contacts can have on our lives.
The most likely reason why people failed to live a long life was alcohol or drug use (including tobacco), depression, lack of exercise, and not eating well.
Here is what else they found helps increase health:
- Fiber helps to keep our bowels regular, but also to take toxins out of our bodies.
- Good proteins such as grass-fed and free-range meats.
- Antioxidants, especially those found in colorful fruits and veggies. If you don’t get enough vegetables in your diet, make sure you supplement.
- Exercise may be one of the best ways to keep your telomeres (an important part of your chromosones) long. That’s essential to a long life.
Here are nutrients that help extend life:
- Curcumin is an extract of turmeric. It is anti-inflammatory and provides good antioxidant protection.
- Fish oils are essential fatty acids that most people are not getting enough of. Make sure you supplement if you are not eating fish two to three times a week.
- Polyphenols are phytonutrients that are found in fresh fruits and vegetables. Most people are not getting enough of these either.
- Vitamin E, selenium, CoQ10, and astaxanthin are also excellent life-extenders.
