Watch for These SECRET Heart Attack Risks

We’ve all been told how to avoid heart attacks, right?

Just eat well and keep your cholesterol levels in check.

But here’s something most of us are NEVER told…

Did you know that 80% of the people who show up in the emergency room for heart attacks say they eat well and have normal cholesterol levels?

Clearly, something else is going on.

And it is…

There are several heart attack risks that we aren’t being warned about… they’re practically a secret.

But knowing and spotting them could save your life.

Here are some of the crazy things that can increase risk for heart attacks:

  • CHIP: Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) is a bone marrow stem cells mutation which increases your chances of dying from a heart attack or stroke by 40%-50%. While researchers are still determining how CHIP can lead to artery-blocking plaque, the link seems to be the development of a type of white blood cell, which (in turn) causes inflammation. Stay tuned, there may be tests for CHIP fairly soon.
  • Special LDL: You may have heard of LDL (low-density lipoproteins) and that you want to keep them low. But there is another particle called lipoprotein(a) which is much more closely associated with heart disease than any other cholesterol. You need to be checked for it.
  • Sugar: The government has been aiming at fat as the culprit for heart disease for years, meanwhile the real crime lord (sugar) has been sneaking its way into all our food. Drinking two sodas a day increases risk by 30%-40%– and 60% of patients who had heart attacks are either pre-diabetic or diabetic.
  • Stopping Aspirin: I’m not a fan of aspirin (there are much better ways to reduce inflammation), but stopping aspirin increases risk of heart attack by over 37%. This result came from a study of over 600,000 adults. The lesson? Don’t take aspirin. But if you want to get off of it, go slowly and use natural anti-inflammatories.

Now that we know what raises our risks, let’s lower your risk of a heart attack by following my plan.

Dr. Scott’s Plan for Lowering Heart Risk:

  • Exercise: Exercise not only reduces inflammation, but is great for your heart and brain. You don’t have to be too crazy, just get out and move your body around some every day.
  • Eat Colorful Foods: This means getting enough vegetables in your diet. If you can’t stand veggies, you can “cheat” by getting your veggies and in a powdered superfood form. I take one every day by mixing it into yogurt and some berries. Nitrates (found in beets) are also especially helpful for the heart.
  • Avoid Vegetable Oils: Vegetable oils, especially trans fatty acids, are like setting off tiny bombs in your blood stream which increase inflammation.
  • Fish Oil: One of the most powerful anti-inflammatories is fish oil. It works inside your body to keep inflammatory proteins low.
  • Curcumin: This extract from turmeric is great at helping the body modulate inflammation. Unless you get a ton of turmeric in your food, think about supplementing.
