Dr. Scott’s PERSONAL Supplement Plan

I talk about nutritional supplements all the time.

And one of the most common questions I get is, “Which supplements do you take?”

Deciding on a supplement regimen is a very personal decision.

But let me walk you through the supplements I take every day – and why.

My personal plan may give you some ideas you can add to your own supplement routine.

There are several supplements I take on an as-needed basis – like if I’m coming down with a cold, am traveling, or am having trouble sleeping.

But here are the supplements I take daily:

  • Turmeric: Turmeric, and its main compound curcumin, protect against many diseases including arthritis, heart disease, dementia, and some cancers. It’s also great at controlling inflammation.
  • Vitamin D: I live in Colorado, which has a ton of sunlight (vitamin D is produced in our bodies when sunlight hits our skin). Starting in September, I take 2,000 IU a day. When December comes, I move that up to 5,000 IU a day and keep that level until April.

Vitamin D boosts my immune system, helps maintain my mental functioning, and keeps my bones strong. I don’t make the mistake of taking vitamin D alone. Vitamin K is essential to take along with vitamin D – it helps get calcium to where it belongs (in your bones).

  • Probiotics and Prebiotics: Healthy gut bacteria (probiotics) help us digest food, normalize blood sugar, build our immune systems, and keep bowel movements regular. Prebiotics are fiber that helps them grow and flourish. There are lots of probiotic/prebiotic combination products on the market.
  • Fish Oil: EPA and DHA from fish oil are just like vitamins – our bodies need them. From heart health to brain function to good skin, you need these essential fatty acids.
  • Plant Nutrients: There are many nutrients that cannot be classified as vitamins, but that are extremely healthy for us (bioflavonoids, polyphenols, carotenes, etc.) and most of us don’t get enough. I take a super-food supplement. If you don’t eat enough veggies and fruits, you should add a super-food powder to your diet. I personally mix a super-foods powder with yogurt and berries for a blast of phytonutrients every day.

Health and Happiness,
