5 “Harmless” Habits Wrecking Your Health

You make thousands of choices every day.

What to eat… what to wear… which medications you’re going to take.

And many of these decisions can either support your health… or destroy.

Sometimes these choices are obvious, like quitting smoking or giving up soda.

But sometimes there not.

That’s why I’m going to show you five seemingly harmless habits that are actually hurting your health.

Your overall health could take a major hit from things you choose to do every day. But these five could really set you up for some unexpected problems:

#1 Stifling a Sneeze: It may seem like bad manners to let a huge sneeze go when you're in a crowd of people, but your body is sneezing for reason. When you hold back a sneeze, pressure can build up in your sinus. When this happens, it can cause serious damage to your ear drums, your sinus, your eyes and even your brain. Try sneezing into the cuff of your arm instead of holding it back.

#2 Wallet in Back Pocket: I used to stick my wallet in my back pocket for years until a chiropractor friend of mine told me it was causing my back pain. Having a wallet in your back pocket pushes one side of your hip forward whenever you are sitting. This can affect your muscles and nerves… causing you great pain.  Doctors even have a name for it, “fat wallet syndrome”. Reducing your wallet size and storing it in your front pocket will help your back.

#3 Hand Dryer: I'm not particularly germ-phobic. But I can’t stand to step foot in a public bathroom with a hand dryer. Why? Hand dryers take whatever is on someone's hands and shoots it right into the air. That means you're breathing in the germs (and whatever else) is on the hands of everyone using that dryer. In fact, one study found that these machines can even act as “reservoirs” for dangerous germs. So, stick to the paper towels from now on.

#4 Eating out: Everyone likes to go to a restaurant and be served. But the amount of toxic chemicals in the food we're eating when we eat out can be overwhelming. Restaurant meals can contain a high amount of trans fat, artificial flavors, artificial colors, and sugar. Even worse? Most restaurants are cleaned with chemicals that can mess up your hormones, cause asthma, and even impact your brain. Cooking at home will keep you safe from these health hazards.

#5 Smartphone Use: It’s hard to avoid smartphones these days. But if you care about your health, you should scale back your use as much as possible. Because the blue light coming from your phone has been shown to increase insomnia, diabetes and even vision loss. If you need to use your phone regularly, I suggest using blue-light blocking glass.
