Antibiotics CAUSING Diabetes?!
It’s no secret that antibiotics can be dangerous.
They can cause serious stomach issues… mess with your metabolism… and even set you up for deadly infections.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Because a new study shows that taking antibiotics can give you diabetes.
And you are not going to believe why.
The new study, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, looked at the antibiotic use and diabetes status of nearly 1.5 million patients over a 22-year period.
In the end, they found that the more antibiotics someone took, the more likely they were to develop type 2 diabetes.
In fact, folks that filled 2 to 4 antibiotic prescriptions of any type had a 53% increased risk of having type 2 diabetes than those who filled 0 to 1 prescription of antibiotics.
Other research, from the Salk Institute, found why this happens.
You see, antibiotics destroy your gut bacteria or microbiome.
And when your numbers of “good” gut bacteria dwindle, it can greatly impact your blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity.
So, in short, taking an antibiotic can lead to diabetes.
Studies show that the microbiome imbalances can cause obesity, immune disorders, mood changes and even serious diseases like Alzheimer’s and Chrons.
That’s why it’s important to avoid antibiotics when you can.
And take these extra gut-healthy step, too.
Dr. Scott’s Microbiome Must-Dos:
- Eat plenty of fermented foods like sauerkraut, pickles, yogurt, miso, natto, and kimchi.
- Take a good probiotic. I personally like to rotate probiotics to get a wide variety of species.
- Eat plenty of fiber prebiotics. Probiotics need food and fiber is one of the best ways to feed them. Eat plenty of fresh raw vegetables to get your fiber.
- Sleep well, keep stress low, and exercise.
