High Blood Pressure? You Can’t Miss THIS
When you think of the dangers of high blood pressure, the usual suspects come to mind: heart attack and stroke.
And with good reason. These top killers take the lives of thousands of seniors every year.
But high blood pressure does a lot more than set you up for major heart issues.
In fact, even the slightest uptick in you BP could put you on the fast track to devastating diseases.
Here’s what you need to know.
Damage from high blood pressure happens slowly over time – so slow you may not even notice it.
In fact, the damage it causes is so sneaky that many doctors call it the silent killer.
There is a direct relationship between how high your blood pressure is and disease (the higher the number, the higher the risk).
Health professionals have tended to ignore people with only slight elevations, but not anymore.
You see, having even a marginally higher blood pressure can impact your overall health and even lead to the following diseases:
- Dementia: People aged 50 or older with systolic blood pressure (the top number) of 130mm/Hg or over have a 45 percent greater risk of developing dementia.
- Heart Trouble: New research suggests that even mildly elevated blood pressure (over 125 mm/Hg) are likely to have heart disease sooner.
- Sexual Dysfunction: High blood pressure damages blood vessels and blood is what causes erections. Compromised blood flow can occur in men with a blood pressure of 130mm/Hg or higher.
- Vision and Kidney Problems: The blood vessels that feed the eye and kidney are incredibly delicate and are easy to damage. In the eye, you are risking the loss of eyesight and in the kidney, you are risking the loss of kidney function – all with even slightly elevated blood pressure.
Now is the best time to take control of your blood pressure, even if it is only a bit too high.
The best way to get started is by focusing on your diet. Eliminating processed foods – which are full of sugar, chemicals and dangerous forms of sodium – will help you lower your blood pressure.
And loading up on antioxidant-rich foods like wild-caught fish, leafy greens, beets, and nuts help down your BP even lower.
