A large new study out of Australia looked at the diets and cancer and heart outcomes of more than 53,000 people over 23 years.
The researchers found that people who ate 500 milligrams of flavonoids – powerful compounds found in plants – were less likely to die of cancer or heart disease.
In fact, getting this perfect amount made them:
- 36 percent less likely to die from any cause
- 38 percent less likely to die of heart disease
- And 36 percent less likely to die of cancers.
The reason for the dramatic results is that flavonoids help keep blood vessels healthy, are anti-inflammatory, and are powerful antioxidants.
Flavonoids are found in foods like apples, oranges, broccoli, berries, and other fruits and veggies.
And you can easily get 500 milligrams of flavonoids by eating ONE apple or orange, or a handful of blueberries or broccoli. Even a cup of tea will work.
If you have a hard time eating enough vegetables, make sure that you get them by supplementing – flavonoids are that important (I use a powdered superfoods blend).
