The 20-Minute Fix for Breast Cancer

In a new study, German cancer researchers tracked the cancer status and exercise habits of more than 2,000 senior women for ten years.

At the end, they found that women who increased their activity level AFTER a breast cancer diagnosis cut their risk of death the most.

In fact, active women who stayed active after their diagnosis cut their odds of dying by 39 percent during the study period.

Even better? Women who didn’t exercise, but then started after diagnosis, cut their risk of dying from cancer by 46 percent.

The study found women who exercised moderately (cycling, walking…) for 150 minutes per week or about 20 minutes a day saw the most benefits.

Other studies show that folks who exercise have less cancer. Here’s why:

  • Exercise clears your head. Many people say that decisions come to them when they are exercising. That clear-headedness is something everyone with a cancer diagnosis needs.
  • People who regularly exercise report better sleep and reduced stress. Everyone needs better sleep and reduced stress, but cancer patients are especially in need.
  • Cancer hates when you exercise. Exercise increases oxygen, blood flow, and waste removal (all bad for cancer cells).
  • Exercise switches on immune cells and tumor-fighting genes.

So if you have cancer – or never want to get it – find 20 minutes a day to take a walk, swim, or bike ride.
