[BREAKING] Could A Pre-Existing Condition Put You at RISK for COVID-19?

Dear Reader,

There’s one topic on everyone’s minds lately: COVID-19.

You’re probably familiar with all the preventative measures like wearing masks and gloves, washing your hands, and avoiding public places.

And I’m sure you’ve heard about high risk populations like the elderly or those with heart conditions who should remain indoors at all costs…

But there’s one risk factor you may not be familiar with.

There’s another group of people who should stay on high alert, and no one is talking about it.

The worst part? I’m willing to bet you or someone close to you fits into this category.

*****

If you find yourself constantly pricking your finger, policing every morsel that touches your, or even taking insulin shots, you know how challenging life is living with diabetes.

Well now the challenge just got even harder.

A recent editorial, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, used data from Wuhan province in China (where the pandemic started) and found patients with diabetes mellitus were much more likely to have the severe form of COVID-19 than people without diabetes.

Diabetics weren’t more likely to get the disease. But they were more likely to have a worse outcome…

Most were sicker and had a higher risk of dying

Now, you’ve probably heard that people with heart disease (high blood pressure) have a worse time with the infection, but now we know that diabetics share this same risk.

What does this mean for you?

If you are diabetic, you should think twice before leaving the house.

If you must leave the house, limit your time out, maintain social distancing, and wear a mask. Consider cleaning your groceries when you come home.

You should also be very aware of the symptoms of COVID-19 – shortness of breath, fever, and fatigue. Move quickly to see your healthcare provider if any of these symptoms arise.

As of yet, we don’t know why the infection is worse in people with diabetes – but diabetics have many strikes against them: high inflammation, poor immunity…

As always, do what you can to keep blood sugar under control by eating a low-carb diet and taking herbs and vitamins that help support good blood sugar control.
