Secret Immune Booster Lives in Your GUT?!

Dear Reader,

Your immune system’s health is probably at the forefront of your mind lately.

And with good reason!

Not only do we have a new coronavirus running around, but that are still millions of other infections which can lay you low (don’t forget, the flu still kills 30 to 60,000 people every year in the United States).

And yes, you can boost your immune system with Vitamin C and other herbs. But there is something people forget about – and it is a powerful way to give your immune system the lift it needs.

Let’s back up and do a little biology review first, starting with your body’s microbiome (don’t worry — I promise we’ll get to your immune system in a moment).  The microbiome is a collection of tiny helpful bacteria that live in your digestive tract.

These bacteria in your gut do a lot for you: they help you digest your food, create and extract vitamins and vitamin-like substances from food, and they interact with your immune system.

That last point — interacting with your immune system — is extra important because 70 percent of your immune system is in your digestive tract

In a real way, the health of your immune system is tied to the health of your microbiome.

So how can you improve your microbiome? By sending new healthy bacteria into your gut by taking a probiotic

How powerful can a probiotic be for your immune system?

In one study, published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, a probiotic blend reduced the number of flu-like illnesses by 75 percent and colds by 39 percent when compared to placebo.

Probiotics are believed to work by directly improving the immune system.

Those same bacteria found in your gut also live in the secretions of the lining of the tissue (called mucosa) that makes up your respiratory track (lungs, nose, sinuses…). There, the friendly bacteria fight infections directly.

Clearly, you should take your gut and immune health seriously by making sure you take a good quality probiotic.

And if you want to really boost your immune system, try this too:

  • Eat powerful plants – Garlic, onions, ginger and spices such as oregano and turmeric can give your immune system the support it needs to kill invading bacteria.
  • Make sure you get enough vitamins – Vitamin D, Vitamin K, Vitamin C, Vitamin A all have immune supporting properties.
  • Supercharge your immune system – Certain herbs, such as Goldenseal, echinacea, oregano oil, olive leaf extract, and medical mushrooms all help to give your immune system the boost it needs to protect your body.
