DROP Your Risk of Diabetes with This “Color Trick”

Dear Reader,

There’s a nearly 40 percent chance that you’ll get diabetes sometime in your lifetime.

And I don’t need to tell you how bad that is for your health. Diabetics have an increased risk for heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and kidney disease. Even worse, they have a much shorter life expectancy.

But what if I told you that you could dramatically LESSEN your risk for diabetes by simply getting more of this color in your life?

I’m talking about the color red. But not from a box of Crayola.

See, antioxidants are naturally occurring compounds found in many foods; they help scavenge free radicals that harm your body and make you age faster.

Now, we all have an antioxidant protection system in our body. Thing is, it isn’t 100 percent effective and it gets less powerful as you age.

I’m sure you’ve heard of studies suggesting you eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables to get an excellent source of those antioxidants (such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A, zinc, selenium and others) in order to support your antioxidant system.

And while there are many antioxidants, the ones that give our food color are some of the best. These plant compounds called carotenoids and polyphenols come in many colors (yellow, blue…)

It’s fascinating that the compounds that color fruit have many benefits inside our bodies.

One of the most interesting carotenoids is called astaxanthin, it can be found in many foods. It is the molecule that colors trout, salmon, and shrimp, giving them a reddish, pink hue.

When taken as a supplement astaxanthin has been shown to reduce blood pressure, enhance glucose metabolism and LOWER blood sugar levels – all great news for diabetics!

Astaxanthin also reduces levels of glycated proteins (misshapen protein that damage our bodies) and supplementing with astaxanthin can help us lose weight.

While you certainly can find astaxanthin in foods your best source is supplements (to make sure you are getting enough).

But don’t stop there, you can do much more to help balance your blood sugar.

Dr. Scott’s Blood Sugar Fix:

  • Limit Certain Foods: Blood sugar is made worse by alcohol, highcarbohydrate foods, soda, sugar drinks, and processed foods. Avoid these as much as possible.
  • Maintain a Healthy Weight: This is easy to say, and harder to do. There is much you can do to help maintain a good weight, including boosting your metabolism and increasing your muscle mass.
  • Support Your Liver with Healthy Herbs: I like milk thistle, dandelion, and turmeric for liver support.
  • Control Blood Sugar with Natural Remedies: Try berberine, curcumin, and chromium to help keep blood sugar under control.
