Natural Remedy FENDS OFF Summer Bugs!

Dear Reader,

Just about everyone enjoys being outside during the summer.

There’s only one huge downside to evening dinners on the deck, or spending time in the yard…

Bugs.

And if you’re someone who often feels like a free buffet for mosquitos, you probably have a few bottles of bug spray at the ready.

But before you go lathering up in this chemical-laden gunk… it’s time to consider a recently approved, natural alternative.

Every once in a while, the government surprises me by doing something right.

The CDC recently approved a natural remedy to repel mosquitoes and ticks

This is important because most bug sprays are a toxic soup that you definitely don’t want to spray onto your body.

“Chancing it” isn’t a good idea either… I’m sure I don’t have to tell you the hefty list of diseases that mosquitoes and ticks carry…

We have enough going on with the worldwide pandemic without worrying about also getting West Nile virusZikaLyme’s disease – not to mention the ceaseless itches that come with summer bug bites.

Now, mosquitoes are annoyingand they do carry harmful disease. Fortunately, in the United States mosquitoes don’t account for too many diseases or deaths… the deadliest disease they carry here is West Nile Virus (and around 100 people die of that every year).

However, worldwide, mosquitoes are responsible for more deaths than any other animal (several million deaths – mostly from malaria).

But ticks, are much worse, they are responsible for 80 percent of all vectorborne disease in the United States

At least 30,000 people get Lyme’s disease every year, 4,000 get Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

That’s why, it’s a good idea to protect yourself when you do decide to go outside.

In the past that has been a problem because the most common chemical agent found in most bugs sprays is called DEET (N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide)

The government claims DEET has been found to be safe when properly used… But skin rashes, seizures in children, and even cancer and effects on unborn children have all been reported

So, as most things with the government, can we really trust it?

Plus, DEET does nothing to kill mosquitoes, but instead interferes just with their receptors that are used to detect humans

The good news is a molecule called nootkatonean (and extract originally found in grapefruit but can also be found in Cedar) has now been approved by the CDC.

Nootkatonean has been found in studies to be at least as effective as DEET and other bug sprays. Even better, it’s slowly making its way into bug sprays as a safer ingredient. You can find out a bit more with your own research, and be sure to check ingredient labels.
