Chinese Root Plant Keeps Your Bones Strong

When you think about having strong bones I guarantee there’s one thing that comes to mind… and it’s because the mainstream has drilled it into us REPEATEDLY.

Calcium! Calcium! Calcium! They chant.

Well, honestly, I’m sick and tired of hearing about calcium.

Because the truth is there’s NO animal on earth that consumes as much calcium as we do!

Yet we still have some of the weakest bones…

It’s true, calcium is important for your bonesbut so are a half-dozen other nutrients.

In fact, I’m willing to bet you haven’t heard about this particular bone-boosting Chinese root plant that’s crucial when it comes to keeping your bones strong.

*****

if you’re older than 50, ginseng is something you need to know about

Ginseng is well known (especially in Chinese medicine) for improving immune health, relieving fatigue, reducing stress and increasing overall well-being

There’s no question, ginseng is definitely something us older folks needAnd in Traditional Chinese Medicine, that is exactly who it is prescribed for: a tonic for the mature population

But a new study, published by The Chinese Rural Development Administration, found another use for ginseng: to help keep bones healthy.

The researchers gave people between 1-3 grams of ginseng extract a day and found a 11.6 percent increase in a hormone called osteocalcin compared to the control group who took nothing.

Osteocalcin is secreted by bone cells and increases mineralization and density of bones.

Interestingly, osteocalcin also helps blood sugar balance, exercise capacity, brain development, cognition, and male fertility.

The people taking ginseng also had a three times increase in their calcium level (possibly because osteocalcin helps pull calcium from the digestive tract).

If you want to keep your bones healthy, try taking ginseng. But don’t stop there – make sure you’re getting enough of the following too, in order to keep your bones healthy as you age:

  • Protein is the forgotten nutrient needed for good bone health. Most proteins will help with bone growth, but collagen is extremely important to build good bones. I take a powdered collagen product because collagen is difficult to get in our diets. Vitamin C works with protein to create a collagen matrix.
  • Vitamin D is one of the more important nutrients you can take to help build good strong bones.
  • Vitamin K is another necessary and forgotten nutrient that’s essential for bone building. Remember, if you are on blood thinners, to check with your doctor when taking vitamin K.
  • Many minerals are also important for your bone health, including magnesiumboron, and chromium.
  • Exercise not only helps your muscles grow, but also your bones. To build strong bones it’s important to move your body (walking and running are your best bets).

P.S. As important as it is to make sure you get the right nutrients to build strong bones – it’s equally important to know what might be WRECKING your bone health. And some of the biggest bone-destroyers could be in your medicine cabinet right now. You can read on to find out which drugs are destroying your bone health, here.
