“Brain Disease” 3X Deadlier?!

Dear Reader,

There is a horrible disease that threatens to attack us as we grow older…

It robs us from our ability to think on our own. It leads us to forgetfulness sometimes to the point where we can no longer remember names or places.

In the end what it really takes away is what it means to be human

Worse still, scientists have recently found that we have far underestimated this all-too-common disease.

And they’ve discovered It’s causing far more deaths than we ever imagined.

The good news? You don’t have to be part of this statistic. But only if you take action now.

*****

Dementia. The word alone is enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine.

Dementia is a group of diseases (including Alzheimer’s) that, as we get older, destroy our brains.

But here’s the thing about dementia we rarely consider: it a fatal disease

It was often believed that many people who get Alzheimer’s and other dementia’s, usually die of something elseThat is, until a group of researchers, publishing their work in JAMA Neurology, decided to find out if this was actually true.

Currently, dementia is listed as a reason for death only five percent of the time

But when the researcher team scoured through the data, they discovered that number should be almost 14 percent.

So what does this mean for you?

It means you should – if you haven’t already — focus on taking care of your brain as much as you can. Most of us aren’t doing enough to give our brain the extra protection it needs.

A large part of helping your brain boils down to protecting it from things that can trigger dementia like this popular mainstream drug. Chances are it’s already in your medicine cabinet. Find out what it is here and what steps you should take.

There are many other things you can do to boost your brain. I’ve outlined a few good places to start

Dr. Scott’s Guide to Preventing Brain Loss

  1. Enjoy Your Coffee – Coffee contains a chemical called eicosanoyl-5-hydroxytryptamide (EHT) that, in studies done on rats, has been shown to protect against Alzheimer’s disease. Other studies support the brain-health benefits of coffee.
  2. Tea Too! – Green tea is a rich source of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which has been shown to reduce beta-amyloid plaques and tau tangles (the causes of Alzheimer’s disease). Tea has also been shown to drop blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which is good for the brain.
  3. Get a Pet – A pet encourages you to be social and get exercise as well as providing companionship.
  4. Get Colorful – When you eat, that is. Higher vegetable consumption is associated with slower rate of cognitive decline. That’s based on 3,718 people aged 65 years and older who participated in the Chicago Health and Aging Project. Choose foods of many different colors.
  5. Nap – Researchers at the Laboratory of Human Chronobiology at Weill Cornell Medical College in White Plains, New York, studied how 22 men and women reacted to varying napping regimens, finding that naps of all lengths enhanced cognitive performance during the day.
  6. Exercise– But Not Too Long – In a study on Alzheimer’s, participants walked for 30 minutes before dinner. Those who walked in six-minute vigorous intervals experienced better post-meal blood sugar levels than study participants who did the once daily, moderate session. Blood sugar is closely related to brain health.
  7. Get Crafty  Researchers at the Mayo Clinic studied crafting activities—such as woodworking, pottery, ceramics, and quilting – and found they reduced the likelihood of Alzheimer’s by 55%.
  8. Get Spicy – Cinnamon, turmeric, rosemary, and lavender all help with brain health.
  9. Volunteer – Staying active and having a sense of purpose help people to stave off the signs of Alzheimer’s.

P.S. Do you really know what’s in your medicine cabinet? Because believe it or not, there’s a drug in there that could have you on the fast track to dementia. If you or a loved one are concerned about dementia, you’ll want to read more about it here.
