Key Way to Reduce COVID Risk

Dear Reader,

Months ago, we had no idea about what was risky and what was safe when it came to COVID-19.

Research, theories and opinions came pouring in. One more contradictory than the next.

But now that we’re well into the pandemic, we’re getting a better idea of what’s unsafe.

Some common questions are: Should you go to the store? How about a restaurant? What about work, the gym, churn, or a bar?

Do masks and social distancing really work?

Well, the answers may surprise you

A new study, published recently in the Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases, found that social distancing does indeed work

The scientists surveyed recent COVID patients about their activities in the weeks leading up to the diagnosis, and compared it to those who don’t presently have the virus

They found that if you HAVE the coronavirus:

  • You are 4.3 times more likely to have used public transportation (bus, subway…)
  • You are 16 times more likely to have gone to church.

Another study by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) found that three places made the biggest difference between the people who got the disease and those that didn’t.

People who got COVID-19 were much more likely to have visited restaurant, a bar, or a church.

But there’s more to this:

Those who always practiced social distancing (and wore mask) were LESS likely to become infected.

So even if you go to those higher risk areas like church, bar, or restaurant, you’re likely safer if you wear a mask and try to keep your distance from others.

And if you are heading out the door in these infectious times, practice social distancing as best you can

P.S. It can be hard to know if you have the coronavirus or just some common cold/allergies. But for some folks there is a “symptom clue” that could help you identify the virus faster. Learn more about it here and what you should be on the lookout for.
