Is This Food Additive Making You Aggressive?

Dear Reader,

You probably know by now that I’m not a fan of food additivespreservativesand other junk items that Big Food likes to dump in our food these days.

Many of the additives that are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) get a gold stamp because manufacturers want their food to look good, taste amazing, and last a long time on the shelf

And the hard truth is that your health is their last concern.

Many of those food additives are health nightmares, to say the least. But there’s one in particular that can have a scary effect on your emotions – leading to anxiety and aggression.

High fructose corn syrup is the food additive you eat the most.

It is found in everything from soda, cookies, and cakes to things like peanut butter and salad dressing. Eating a lot of high fructose corn syrup is one of the reasons why we all struggle with losing weight, but it also messes with your brain

New research, published in the journal Evolution of Human Behavior, found that high fructose corn syrup may be the trigger for many psychological problems including attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome, bipolar disease, and even aggressive behaviors

It works like this…

You munch on something that contains high fructose corn syrup. As your body processes and metabolize the fructose, it produces a byproduct called uric acid. You may have heard of uric acid – it is the cause of gout, but it also lowers energy production in cells

The way that uric acid reduces energy production is a bit of a mystery to scientists, but they know uric acid causes mitochondria (the energy-producing part of every cell in your body) to produce less energy.

If you are thinking that this might make you tired, you are right.

But this lowered energy production has another bad effect: it triggers what science calls a foraging response.” Most people would just call in “hangry” (a combination of hungry and angry).

This foraging response occurs in starvation and it compels us to seek out food – at any cost. Scientist think this fructose/brain pathway is meant to aid our survival – which makes sense in a world where fruit is only available in fall, but which is disastrous when fructose is in every meal (most people eat forty-four POUNDS of high fructose every year!).

No wonder so many people are anxious and angry.

Your solution, of course, is to avoid machine-made foods as much as possible. If it comes in a box, bag, or wrapper – it is generally not good for you.

P.S. It’s no secret that food additives can wreak havoc on your body and your health. And there’s one in particular that could be destroying your gut right now. Go here to find out everything you need to know about this gut-destroying food toxin.
