This “Blood-Brain Secret” Defeats Alzheimer’s?
Dear Reader,
I know plenty of older folks who’d opt for excruciating pain over losing the ability to think and remember.
Jim, a friend of mine even said, “I’d rather have a heart attack or cancer than not remember my kid’s or grandkid’s names.”
While it might sound extreme to younger people, MANY older folks feel this way…
They don’t want to be a burden to their family or worse, lose cherished memories.
Well, a new study discovered how to prevent this from happening. And it has everything to do with keeping your brain in tip-top shape.
You’ve probably heard of Tau proteins: those brain proteins which tangle up brain cells and lead to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Well, those Tau proteins take up shop inside the neurons and slow down the electrical conductivity of the brain.
Tau protein plaquing is how your doctor assesses the progression of the disease through a brain scan. The more Tau protein plaquing, the worse your Alzheimer’s.
For a long time, doctors thought Tau proteins were the problem.
But what if they were only a sign of some other condition?
Researchers, publishing their work in the Journal of Neuroscience, looked at brain scans from 68 men and women between the ages of 46 and 80 they found a close correlation between Tau Protein tangles and a drop in blood flow to the brain.
We have always assumed that protein tangles decreased blood flow… but what if it’s the other way around?
Looking at another 138 patients with Alzheimer’s, the research team found that cerebral blood flow DECREASED with increased brain tangles.
So keeping your brain blood flow strong boils down to one thing: moving your body around.
But there is SO MUCH more you can do to keep your brain healthy.
Dr. Scott’s Keys to a Healthy Brain
- Eat a diet high in vegetables and good proteins. This means making sure you are eating a vegetable at every meal and focus on wild or free-range meats when you can.
- Avoid processed foods and foods with too much sugar and vegetable oils. These increase inflammation in your body–which is deadly to your brain. I like olive and avocado oils the most, but you can also use butter.
- Keep your blood sugar under control. Blood sugar and brain health are closely tied. If you need help controlling blood sugar, look to supplements that contain chromium and berberine.
- Eat good fats. The very best fat you can put in your body are the Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil). Not only does your brain need these oils to build a healthy brain, fish oils also help to tamp down runaway inflammation.
- Exercise. There is not a single thing that is better for your brain than exercise. Get out and move your body every day.
