Hidden Factor in COVID-19 Risk?

Dear Reader,

At first, the idea seemed downright crazy

Scientists investigating those who got COVID-19 and those who didn’t (including the different types of outcomes…) found that one thing in particular could make a huge difference.

Sure, we all know by now that preexisting condition— overweight, diabetes, heart disease — slant the odds against you.

But this has the potential to determine if you get sick and how sick you become.

I’m sure we’re all just about sick and tired of the novel coronavirus. But its newness means one crucial thing: we need to learn all we can so that we can stack the odds in our favor.

Information about it can change daily, even hourly it seems. And while we’ve talked about blood type and COVID-19 in the past, more research keeps rolling in…

new study, published in the journal Blood Advances, found that your blood type may have a lot to do with whether you become infected with COVID-19 or not.

The study, done in Denmarkfound that having Type O blood was associated with thirteen percent reduced risk of developing COVID-19

The study also found that once somebody had COVID-19, the risk of death was not any different between the different blood types.

However, another study found that people with blood types A, B, and AB may actually be at increased risk for blood clots and cardiovascular disease associated with COVID-19

These blood types were more likely to have to use mechanical ventilation, have kidney problems, and longer stays in emergency care units

Interestingly, the researchers also found that women with blood Type O did better than men.

Scientists are just warming to the idea that blood type can have effects on our health. There has been a bunch of other research that shows blood type influences our susceptibility to certain viruses

What’s important to note is – nothing is definite. Just because you have blood type A – for example – does not mean you will definitely get the virus and have a severe case.

So, what should you take away from this research?

Since changing your blood type is not an option, if you do fall into the higher risk categories, make sure you are extra diligent about your precautions.

Sticking to the standard advice is crucial: avoid crowds, wear a mask, wash your hands, and keep your body as healthy as possible by eating well.

You can also help boost your immune system, which is your best defense against the virus, by taking the right supplements. Learn about the best supplements to take to get an iron-clad immune system, here.

P.S. Having a strong immune system is crucial, especially this time of year. Between the coronavirus, the flu, or just the common cold – you’ll want your defenses up! Click here and find out how to get an iron clad immune system.
