Drop in Key Vitamin Leads to Dementia?

Dear Reader,

We can learn a lot by paying attention to those who do things right (and those who stray…).

One of those negative lessons we can learn from is people who drink too much alcohol.

Everything is good in moderation. But hard drinking is rough on your body for many reasons.

But the one will look at today is a dramatic drop in many vitamins – one of which can have disastrous effects on your brain.

Whether it’s from alcohol or not – a depletion of this vitamin could send you on this surefire path to cognitive troubles and even dementia.

I’m talking about Vitamin B1.

A common consequence of alcoholism is cognitive function decline (brain loss) which then turns into fullblown dementia (in fact, it even has the name alcoholrelated dementia).

Researchers wondered for a long time why alcohol related dementia happened. But a new research study from researchers in Vienna, published in the journal Alzheimer’s And Dementia, discovered the key to brain loss was the loss of Vitamin B1.

It’s a bit complicated, but low Vitamin B1 actually increases iron deposits in the brain

This is because Vitamin B1 is a necessary part of something called the Blood Brain Barrier. This barrier keeps certain things OUT of your brain while allowing others to pass.

When Vitamin B1 is low in your body from drinking too much alcohol, the Blood Brain Barrier fails. This allows iron to flow freely into your brain.

Your body needs iron, but only in certain places. When iron accumulates in your brain, it increases inflammation and causes nerve and tissue damage.

So, does that mean if you drink alcohol you should take vitamin B1? The answer is yes, but drinking less alcohol is also a great idea!

Can you have low Vitamin B1 if you don’t drink? That answer is also yes.

I generally recommend take a multiB vitamin (usually called B Complex) instead of just taking on of the B vitamins.

If you really want to take care of your brain, try this.

Dr. Scott’s Plan to Stop Your Brain from Falling Apart:

  • START BY: taking care of your heart and control your blood sugar.
  • Get out and exercise every once and a while. Don’t try and by an Olympian, just get out and move your body a bit.
  • Keep inflammation under control. Try berberine and curcumin to keep inflammation in check and stay away from the oils that increase inflammation like corn, soy, and other vegetable oils.
  • Fish oil is a powerful brain supplement. Not only does fish oil help support your brain with healthy fats but also helps keep inflammation low. Take fish oil every day!

Being an active participant in your health is the only way to keep your brain from turning into mush as you age.

P.S. As I’m sure you know by now, hard drinking has the potential to leahttps://livingwelldaily.com/is-this-drug-fast-tracking-dementia/d to dementia. But that’s not the only thing that can wreck your brain. Go here and find out what DRUG could be putting you on the dementia fast track.
