Diabetics: Beware of This Ticking Time Bomb!

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Diabetes (as I’ve said many times) is a horrible disease that leads to a HUGE amount of damage to your heart, your brain, your kidneys…

And it can even shorten your life.

Sadly, one in ten people reading this could be living with this dreadful disease… and you could be one of them.

Worse? If you are, you could be living with a ticking time bomb in your body.

Here’s everything you need to know, including how to defuse it.

Living with diabetes can feel like everything is spinning out of control. Suddenly you have to worry about many things you’d have never thought of.

And now that includes heart failure.

Mainstream doctors give out diabetes drugs hoping they’ll control blood sugar and ALSO manage blood pressure and cholesterol.

But this one-size-fits-all method DOESN’T WORK.

That’s because these drugs are often useless… and diabetic patients have an overly high risk of heart failure.

And this results in living with a ticking time bomb.

Luckily, there’s a reasonable, logical, and easy way to truly get to the root cause: lifestyle.

The Look AHEAD (Action for Health in Diabetes) study examined whether an intensive lifestyle intervention would reduce the risk of heart disease among 5,145 patients with type 2 diabetes who were also overweight.

The research team put people on a diet and exercise program designed to lose seven percent of their body weight and improve their heart health and blood sugar control.

But the scientists found little change in both heart failure and risk of heart attack at the end of the program.

In other words, it flopped.

The researchers concluded that higher exercise levels and greater blood sugar control were the keys to really reducing risk.

To control diabetes and save your heart, you need to lose more than just seven percent of your body weight.

But don’t worry—it’s not as hard as you might think.

Dr. Scott’s Plan for Burning Fat:

  • Protein: You need to eat protein to feel full, shrink your appetite, and lower your cravings. Protein easily fills you up and takes more energy to digest than any other types of food. Protein also helps build muscle mass, which pushes your metabolism into overdrive.
  • Be an Amish Farmer: Not literally of course! But University of Maryland researchers concluded that a lifestyle with abundant physical work (like the Amish) is the best for weight loss and maintenance. And it’s actually not as difficult as it sounds. Find an exercise you like doing, whether it’s walking, golfing, swimming, or biking, as long as it’s something you enjoy.
  • Pretend You’re Italian: The best diet on the planet is called the Mediterranean Diet, which includes fish, poultry, vegetables, nuts, and olive oil. You can make this work for you by including a veggie with every meal and make olive oil your standard oil.
  • Drink Only Water: This is the hardest step for most people, but the calories that come from drinking anything but water are calories you don’t need. If you want to drink something else, try green tea or coffee— these actually kick your metabolism into high gear and help your weight loss. And bonus: they’re calorie-free if you don’t add any sweeteners or dairy.

P.S. Did you know that adding this vegetable  to your diet could SLAM the brakes on diabetes? Read all about it right here.
