[SENIORS] AVOID This to Keep Your Memory Sharp

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

If you’re like most seniors I treat, you will do just about anything to be healthy and happy.

And that’s why so many of my patients go to extremes to be at their peak, especially when it comes to preserving their memory and living long, fruitful lives.

They never stop exercising… watch everything they eat… and always keep up with the latest health trends.

Their hearts are in the right place, but their approach is all wrong.

You see, sometimes health trends will get you into trouble because the research behind them is junk.

So you find yourself jumping on the bandwagon for the latest study, hoping to preserve your health, but ironically you end up doing MORE damage.

A new study is proof positive of this.

Instead of choosing this new fad for a healthier brain, I say AVOID it completely… and don’t look back.

Researchers from Tokyo Metropolitan University found that fruit flies with better glucose (sugar) uptake in their brains live longer.

The researchers genetically modified fruit flies to uptake more sugar in their brains. They did this because most animals (and humans) have lower glucose uptake as they grow older.

By modifying the fruit flies, they were able to increase glycolysis. This means that the fruit flies produced more adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which can keep you living longer.

So, the researchers concluded that for humans to get the same benefit, the solution was to make sure that older folks eat MORE sugar.

This is absurd on so many levels.

The first problem is that many people ALREADY eat too much sugar. And this leads to the specific type of brain damage that causes memory loss.

But there’s another problem with this study…

The researchers didn’t address that your brain has TWO sources of energy: glucose and ketones.

Ketones are the broken-down products of fat. Your brain actually prefers ketones to sugar as a source of energy.

One study showed that giving Alzheimer’s patients ketones can help them start thinking better and even experience a partial reversal of their disease.

Eating more sugar only makes matters much worse for your brain. In other words, this is one study you shouldn’t listen to.

If you want to supercharge your brain health, try this instead.

Dr. Scott’s Brain-Boosting Program:

  • Increase protein. Protein is your brain’s best friend. It generates brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that are needed for good function.
  • Eat good fats. The human brain is nearly 60 percent fat. This should tell you how important fat is to the brain. Essential fatty acids like fish oil are absolutely vital for brain function— in fact, I’d vote for these as the “most needed nutrient for the brain.”
  • B vitamins. Every function in your brain requires B vitamins, so there’s no better way to support your brain than a good vitamin B complex.
  • Herbal support. I like curcumin and bacopa for good brain support because both have great research behind them.

P.S. Ketones aren’t just good for your brain—they can also help you defeat this chronic lung disease. Find out more right here.
