[REVEALED] The REAL Reason for Crohn’s Disease
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Have you ever felt blamed when you go to the doctor?
It seems like no matter what disease or illness you have, some mainstream doctors can make you feel like it’s all your fault.
But being ill is when you need compassion most… and there are some things you just can’t help!
This is especially true when it comes to Crohn’s disease.
Researchers have just discovered the REAL cause of this unbearable disease… and it’s not your fault.
As you already know, the health of your microbiome is what can make Crohn’s disease manageable or a nightmare.
The balance of healthy organisms is absolutely essential for your gut health.
But now a new study has unearthed another enemy lurking in your gut.
Researchers from Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian found that people with Crohn’s disease have more of a gut bacterium called adherent-invasive Escherichia coli (AIEC).
And AIEC inflames your intestines.
As this type of E. coli grows, it releases a chemical called a metabolite which essentially gnaws away at the lining of your intestines, causing horrible flare-ups that can include bleeding and pain.
In the test tube study, researchers discovered that AIEC takes a type of sugar called fucose and converts into another chemical called 1,2-propanediol, which gives it energy to attack your gut cells.
But when the researchers modified AIEC so it couldn’t produce this energy source, it stopped causing inflammation.
This explains why treating Crohn’s with antibiotics initially works: it kills most of the AIEC bacteria. But bacteria always learn to fight antibiotics, so once you stop taking meds, the AIEC bacteria will start to grow again and the symptoms will return.
Of course, the researchers are looking for a drug that will block propionate, but (as always) blocking propionate could have side effects no one can predict.
It is better to put your house in good order and let natural good bacteria take over and squash AIEC.
Let me show you how.
Dr. Scott’s Good Gut Health Program:
- Probiotics are your easiest path to a healthy digestive system. I prefer a probiotic product that contains a fiber prebiotic along with good bacteria.
- Eat enough fiber to help with regular bowel movements, but to also help stimulate healthy bacterial growth. I always suggest that people take both water soluble and water insoluble fiber. One of my favorite fibers is ground flax seeds.
- Throw away junk food, trans fats, processed, and chemical foods. All processed foods, trans fatty acids, artificial sweeteners, and alcohol harm the microbiome. Do what you can to limit these non-foods in your diet.
- Exercise doesn’t seem like the first place you would turn to help your digestive tract, but it has been shown to help encourage a healthy microbiome.
P.S. This tasty snack could also help end painful flare-ups. Learn all about it right here.
