Wonder Vitamin STOPS Skin Cancer and UV Rays!

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Spring is finally here!

That means the return of flowers, the sweet sounds of birdsong, and blue skies as far as the eye can see.

And it also means more time outside.

While that can be a good thing—especially after a long winter without the sun—there’s something you have to be mindful of…

Skin cancer.

So before you slather on chemical-laden sunscreen, you should know about this wonder vitamin that not only blocks harmful UV rays, but ALSO stops skin cancer!

And the mainstream has missed it completely.

See, when the sun touches your skin it creates the all-around, health-boosting, vitamin D.

It also produces blood pressure-lowering nitric oxide, and helps adjust our circadian rhythm (through a hormone called melatonin)… and many other benefits!

That doesn’t mean you go outdoors unprotected or set yourself up for a sunburn.

But protecting your skin also means making sure your body is getting the RIGHT nutrients to keep your skin’s own defenses strong.

And new study points to the solution.

Researchers at the 29th European Academy of Dermatology found that niacin (also known as Vitamin B3) can protect your skin from ultraviolet exposure and REDUCE the risk of developing skin cancer.

Niacin, like all the B vitamins, is an important nutrient that comes in two main forms: nicotinic acid and nicotinamide (NAM).

While nicotinic acid excels at lowering cholesterol levels, NAM interacts with your skin cells to help increase the natural protective mechanisms of your skin.

The research team studied cells from the skin of patients diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancers.

They then pretreated the cancer cells with NAM and then exposed them to powerful ultraviolet light.

Pretreating the cells protected them from oxidative stress (including DNA damage). The niacin also enhanced DNA repair and acted as an antioxidant, reducing local inflammation.

Here’s the thing you need to know about NAM: it’s short-acting, so that means you need to take it every day if you want to maintain protection.

If you really want to up your skin protection game, take NAM and do the following:

  • Essential Fatty Acids. If you don’t eat fish two to three times a week, then fish oil is a must. I recommend taking between 1,000 and 3,000 milligrams of fish oil a day.
  • This is one of those nutrients that no one is getting. Fix this by supplementing: your joints and skin will thank you.
  • Vitamin D and vitamin K. These two fat-soluble vitamins that are missing from most people’s diet and ones you desperately need.
  • Polyphenols are phytonutrients. These nutrients are found in fresh fruits and vegetables. Most people are not getting enough of these either.

P.S. Many people have suffered from sunburn throughout their lives, but few know how dangerous it can be. Click here to find out what it’s actually doing to your skin, plus how to protect yourself.
