New COVID Test Approved?! (And Why You’ll Want to Take It)

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

It feels like we’ve come through a long dark, winter.

And I don’t mean because spring is here… I’m talking about the pandemic.

We’re finally getting to see our loved ones again and starting to breathe a little bit easier.

But we’ve also had to face the truth: COVID-19 isn’t going away anytime soon.

We’ve gotten better at treating it… we’ve gotten a vaccine… but there’s still one major way the mainstream has been failing us.

Testing.

But now the FDA has approved a NEW test… and for once, they may have gotten something right.

So far there are only two choices if you want to get tested for COVID-19.

The first test is the nose swab that many of us have (unfortunately) been subjected to.

It can only tell you whether you have an active infection or not. This means if you don’t get your timing just right, you could be COVID-positive even if the test says otherwise.

The second is the antibody test. This test tells you if you had an infection by looking at the level of antibodies in your blood.

The only problem with this test is that antibody levels drop quickly when the infection is gone – so it will only work for a maximum of 12 weeks after an infection.

But now, the FDA has approved a third test: the T cell test.

This test is brilliant because it doesn’t need to find antibodies, which go into hiding after an infection. And unlike the nasal swab test, the infection doesn’t need to be active to spot the COVID virus.

T cells last much longer than antibodies, and also have something they don’t—memory.

T cells are essentially the record keepers for illness in your body. By “reading” these cells, researchers can see not only if you’ve had COVID-19, but possibly where you’re at in the infection.

To take the test, you simply have your blood drawn. Then, the lab will look closely at the sample, using a program to un-code your DNA and look for T cell levels.

While there are still variables to the process, it’s much more promising—and definitive—than any other testing method we’ve had so far.

Unsurprisingly, the T cell test is not covered by insurance, which means it can cost at least $150.

Your best bet is to talk to your doctor first to see if he offers it, and then talk to him about cost before you take it.

P.S. Whether you’re sure you’ve had COVID-19 or not, you’ll want to look for these symptoms. They can be a sign that you HAVE been infected… or that you’re still suffering from an infection. Find out everything you need to know right here.
