THIS Could Steal Your Vision (Scary)
If you’re like me, you’d do just about anything to never lose your eyesight.
That’s why you try to never skip a serving of eye-enhancing antioxidants and always eat wild-caught seafood.
But there’s something you need to know.
Researchers have discovered a new cause of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
And it’s terrifying.
As many as 11 million people in the United States have some form of age-related macular degeneration, robbing them of the ability to see. This number is expected to double to nearly 22 million by 2050.
And now we may know why.
A new study from the University of Maryland School of Medicine found a potential underlying cause for age-related macular degeneration.
It starts with a molecule called complement factor H. This factor H keeps the body from attacking itself by “marking” it in order for other immune system cells to recognize it.
You see, AMD is actually an autoimmune disease. Those who are missing this factor don’t have a defense mechanism set in place.
Because without factor H, the body attacks the seeing cells in the eyes.
The researchers tested this theory first on worms to see if itthis could cause AMD. And indeed, it did. The worms who didn’t have factor H suffered from an attack on their cilia, the senses they use to get around.
Then, the researchers tested this theory in human retina tissue, confirming that without factor H, the eye cells were left undefended.
But having that gene is not the end of the story. There are plenty of natural substances that will ward off macular degeneration.
Let me show you.
Dr. Scott’s Vision Improvement Regimen:
- Vitamin A. This vitamin is crucial for vision and eye health. It’s an essential component of rhodopsin–a protein that absorbs light in the retina. It’s also vital for the health of the cornea and conjunctival membranes.
- Omega-3 fatty acids. DHA found in fish oil is an omega-3 fatty acid. The photoreceptors in the retina are made up of 50 percent DHA. I suggest you supplement with one to three grams of fish oil a day.
- Berries. I’m a big fan of berries because they contain many powerful antioxidant compounds. Berries are high in essential vitamins and flavonoids that your eyes need. Studies have shown that blueberries may help with night vision, but so do bilberries, as well as Maqui berries.
- Lutein and zeaxanthin. These carotenoids are found in colorful fruits and vegetables and help the macula determine color vision.
- Balance your blood sugar. Increases in blood sugar are part of the reason for cloudiness developing. High blood sugar increases advance glycation end-products (a fancy word for misshapen proteins caused by sugar). If you have problems balancing blood sugar, look to the herbal extract berberine and the mineral chromium.
