Getting a bad night’s sleep can affect your happiness in more ways than one…
In fact, researchers have discovered that getting a good night’s sleep doesn’t just keep you in a good mood… it can keep you in THE mood.
Yes, getting a good night’s sleep is your ticket to a more healthy and regular sex life (especially for women).
A new study published in the journal Menopause, found that poor sleep destroys sexual desire – especially for women. The study authors examined over 3,400 middle-aged or older women. They discovered that poor sleep quality, but not lower sleep duration, had a greater chance of triggering female sexual dysfunction.
What that means is even if you sleep eight hours (good sleep duration) but are tossing and turning during the night (poor sleep quality), then your libido will suffer.
Over 25 percent of middle-aged women experience symptoms of poor sleep and that number shoots up to 50 percent when women go through menopause.
The researchers also found the opposite: women who slept well reported feeling well and had healthier love lives.
Here are some sure-fire tips to have you getting good sleep.
Dr. Scott’s Better Sleep Program:
- Exercise is one of the best paths to a good night’s sleep. When your body is physically tired, your mind has no choice but to give in. Find an exercise you love and increase how much you exercise when you feel stressed.
- Avoid caffeine in the afternoon. This means skipping coffee, tea, chocolate, and energy drinks.
- Sleeping alone is another option for people who are woken up by their mate. The National Sleep Foundation found that nearly 25 percent of couples sleep in separate beds.
- Calming herbs such as hops, passionflower, lemon balm, chamomile, and valerian all help relax the body and mind.
- Theanine is an amino acid found in green tea that helps people feel calm and relaxed, leading to a deeper sleep.
- Melatonin is a hormone that your brain produces to let you know when it’s time to “power down” and go to sleep. You can supplement with it to help your body get into a good sleep schedule.
