[WARNING] FDA Recalls THIS Fruit!?

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

When did it become so dangerous to go to the grocery store?

I’m not talking about masking up to stay safe from COVID-19…

Or avoiding those preservative-filled snacks in the middle aisle…

I’m talking about another darn food recall from the FDA!

And this time, it’s for one of my favorite foods.

The FDA has just recalled THIS ordinarily healthy food thanks to contamination… and trust me, you do NOT want to chance it.

*****

The FDA has issued a warning about Dole blueberries.

Some batches contain cyclospora, a parasite that can lead to nasty intestinal infections.

Cyclospora is spread by people eating or drinking something that was contaminated with feces—yuck!

The FDA said the berries have already been sold here:

  • Illinois,
  • Maine,
  • New York,
  • Wisconsin,
  • as well as Alberta and British Columbia.

Only 6-ounce, 18-ounce, 24-ounce, and pint-sized packages are affected by the recall.

Cyclospora cayetanensis is a one-cell parasite composed that is too small to be seen without a microscope. This parasite causes an intestinal infection called cyclosporiasis.

If you notice you have severe stomach pain, watery diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, stomach cramps/pain, body aches, and fatigue, you could have this infection. You may also get a headache, fever, or other flu-like symptoms.

The good news is, this means there’s no way to pass the infection from one person to the next.

Here’s what you should do.

First get rid of any Dole blueberries. Then make sure you are washing your produce very carefully before you eat it.

Most of the time the symptoms only last a few days. The mainstream treatment is antibiotics, but it hasn’t been shown to reduce the length of the disease.

Taking a quality probiotic is always a good idea. I also like goldenseal for digestive infections.
